NAME
chlib - update link to a Linux shared library
SYNOPSIS
chlib
[
-v
]
[
-f
]
newlib
[
linkdir
]
DESCRIPTION
chlib
updates the symbolic link to a Linux shared library.
newlib
is the full name of the new shared library (e.g. /lib/libc.so.4.4.1).
If specified,
linkdir
is the directory where the symbolic link will be placed.
The default is to place the link in /lib.
To ensure the system is left in a usable state,
chlib
performs several sanity checks on the new shared library and the
current shared library, if one exists, before updating the link.
These checks include the following:
-
linkdir
must be an existing directory.
-
newlib
must be a valid shared library name.
-
If
newlib
is specified with a relative path and
linkdir
is specified with an absolute path,
linkdir
must be the current directory.
-
newlib
must be a valid shared library image.
-
If the link already points to a shared library,
newlib
must have the same load address as the existing library.
-
If the link already points to a shared library,
newlib
must have the same major version number as the existing library.
-
If the link already points to a shared library,
newlib
must have a higher, minor version number than the existing library.
This check can be overridden with the
-f
option.
OPTIONS
- -v
-
Print the program version number and exit.
- -f
-
Force the link to be updated even if
newlib
does not have a higher, minor version than the existing library.
NOTES
To provide the highest degree of security in case of problems,
chlib
should be linked statically.
BUGS
There is a very short period between the time an existing link is removed
and the new link is created.
Programs started during this time will not be able to find the library.
